Roadtrip to Durmitor

Last weekend in August me and my girlfriend set out on a road trip to the northern part of Montenegro – a journey that not only gave us fresh mountain air and cinematic landscapes, but also a chance to capture authentic, on-the-road storytelling with nothing more than our iPhones.

Starting in Budva, we rented a small green car from our go-to rental company GoRent and packed the essentials: snacks, warm clothes and of course our phones. The drive took us through ever-changing weather – from rain showers outside Nikšić to wide-open mountain roads leading into Durmitor National Park. These contrasts became part of the story I wanted to tell visually: the raw beauty of Montenegro, unfiltered and often times unexpected.

One of the highlights was spending a night in Duži, near Nevidio Canyon. We stayed in a cozy triangle house surrounded by forest, waking up to breathtaking views before heading off to Black Lake in Durmitor. The calm water, mountain reflections and trails through the forest offered the perfect natural stage for capturing cinematic moments. A little too touristic in my opinion but still worth-while the trip.

We wrapped up the trip in Podgorica watching Jurassic Park on the big screen. It was the perfect ending to our little trip journey.

Less is more

For me, filmmaking is not just about polished productions. It’s also about telling real stories in a natural, unfiltered way. Whether it’s documenting a brand, creating social media content or producing travel-inspired videos – the way I create my videos is very similar, the mindset I have going into every project. This road trip was another reminder that simplicity is really the way to go for me. Even though the audio is not perfect, the quality is not super-sharp but the moments are definitely real.

We went to the following locations on our trip:

Budva, Nikšić, Durmitor National Park (Black Lake), Nevidio Canyon, Podgorica.
