I recently launched a documentary project about stray cats in Montenegro on Kickstarter (see my previous post) but unfortunately the goal was not reached. But I grew really fond of the idea of creating a project with stray cats so I decided to invest my time and energy into it anyway. It felt like an important project to do.
So I set my aim on Kotor, packed my bags and went with as little luggage as possible to be as flexible as possible on location. Even though I wanted to go lightweight I brought my tripod and ronin-s gimbal. I prefer filming with a small rig so I ended up not using the gimbal at all, and only the tripod for a couple of times when doing interviews. Thankfully I received a lot of help from new-found friends that supported the project and helped my with everything from transportation, connections and assistance while shooting.
My intention from the start was to bring attention and shine light upon the huge stray cat population in the area of Kotor. But while in Montenegro, talking to different people I realized the challenge with over-population is all over the place, not just in Kotor. I know that all of these interviews will bring about a lot of thought provoking reactions in people. For me I gained a lot of insight of the situation and my compassion for the cats grew every day.
Even though I had no external funding for this project I did my best to make it as rich as possible. I did not have a rental car this time so the struggle with bus put some limitations on my work. But I'm sure this documentary will have a great impact on world wide scale of the topic of stray cats.
I plan to go into post-production this weekend with this project and create something extra ordinary and put it on my own YouTube-channel so it will be easily accessable for people. I will post the video on this blog post when it is finished.
