Creating a New YouTube Channel

At the end of January, I was asked to help launch a new YouTube channel. It’s an exciting project where the channel’s main figure, Peter, embarks on a long-term journey called the Six Star Journey. What does this mean? Six marathons in six locations around the world—Tokyo, London, Berlin, Boston, New York, and Chicago. This is also known as the World Marathon Majors. Peter began his journey in 2022 and has since completed the Chicago and Berlin Marathons. He estimates the journey will take another 3-4 years to complete.

The goal of the YouTube channel is for Peter to share his journey and hopefully inspire others to start running. In addition to running, the channel will also feature Peter’s dogs, cars, travels, and more.

The collaboration with Peter has been great, and through our discussions, we’ve developed a setup and format where Peter can create his own content using an intro—combined with the material I produce during special occasions. I’m excited to see how the channel develops.

For the channel’s branding, we’ve incorporated Peter’s signature colors—pink, neon green, white, and black, which frequently appear in his shoes and workout clothes. The use of Cyrillic letters is a nod to Peter’s fascination and connection with Serbia.

I started by creating a mood board for the project, focusing on the colors, fonts, music, tone, and type of content. During filming, we realized that sit-down interviews weren’t the best fit—instead, a documentary-style approach where things unfold naturally worked best for Peter. In post-production, I was able to find a consistent theme fairly easily. Documentary filmmaking is my favorite because it gives me the most creative freedom. Editing a 13-minute film instead of a 3-5 minute one has been a learning experience for me, and it’s a format I’d love to work with more.

I’m now looking forward to producing more YouTube episodes—both for myself, for Peter, and for anyone else who needs help with this.
