Building a house with family

In May 2019 my father stumbled upon a piece of land with an abandoned cabin. The place was full of trash, everything was falling apart, windows were smashed and so forth.. I believe most people would have turned away seeing this — but my father saw potential.

Despite the state it was in, he felt something. A spark. A sense that maybe, just maybe, this place could be given new life.

That curiosity led him to reach out to the owner. And almost a year later, the unexpected happened: the cabin burned down.

For many, that would have been the end of the story. For my dad, it was only the beginning.

The Garage: A Family’s First Big Build

After making a deal for the land, the first idea was simple: build a garage where the cabin once stood.

In the spring of 2022, construction began. We ordered materials from Lundqvist Trä, and while we waited for deliveries, we cleared the site and prepared everything.

Before tackling the garage itself, we even put up a tiny storage house — a place to keep tools, supplies, and to rest during long working days.

On June 5th, 2022, we raised the first walls of the garage. Our crew was small — just my dad, mom, brother, and me — with relatives joining whenever they could. We spent long summer days working side by side, painting, drilling, and lifting. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth every moment.

By the end of the year, the garage stood complete.

The Main House: Rising Again

When the garage was done, my dad set his eyes on something bigger: rebuilding the main house.

Groundwork began in October 2022, and after a long winter pause, we returned in spring with fresh energy. Using building blocks from the same supplier, we once again raised walls, hammered, painted, and worked together as a family.

This time, we had experience — and that made all the difference. By the fall, the new home’s key features were in place.

From Ashes to Reality

Looking back now, it’s hard to believe how far we’ve come. What began as a burned-down cabin became a space filled with life, love, and family spirit.

Five years ago, there was nothing but rubble. Today, there’s a home. Almost a ranch. A place for barbecues, gatherings and even weddings.

This project wasn’t just about building walls or raising a roof. It was about rebuilding a dream. The property wasn’t just rebuilt – It was reborn.
